"Higher Quality Door Styles Worked Out"
It seems that some disappointed reviews of Ikea cabinets, especially older models, are complaining about cheap materials, etc. that I believe relate to their lowest line door styles. We purchased two different door styles-Filipstad, which is solid oak and Bodbyn, which is a durable painted wood. We saved probably at least 10K on cabinets by using Ikea and building/installing ourselves and the outcome is very nice. The cabinet boxes are sturdy, well-engineered, and the hardware is very heavy duty European made and just great. In my opinion, they 'skimp' on the less important things (such as the cabinet back material) and use higher quality where you will interact with it (doors, drawers). The drawers we got are full extension and really nice closers. (There is a lower line of drawers that might not be as nice.) We placed stone counters on top and the boxes were plenty tough to take it without any special support. Keep in mind that if your walls aren't really plumb and square, you will have problems installing Ikea because they are engineered to hang on rails. We did add some extra screws to mount them so they were as stable as possible. As far as chipping and finish problems, I think moisture problems from dishwashers and coffee pots are going to be a problem with any cabinet. When we installed our dishwasher there were explicit instructions regarding moisture barriers for that reason. Some dws direct the steam down the drain so it doesn't leak around the unit to affect the surrounding cabinets. Chipping hasn't been any kind of issue with our wood, but the painted finish could chip if something sharp hit it. Select carefully from the better Ikea doors and use their free kitchen design software before you meet with their designer and that should help avoid most of the problems mentioned here.

"Very Pleased"
We installed a complete set of Ikea cabinets, both upper and lower, in our 14x20 kitchen 10 years ago. We were a bit skeptical because the cost was 1/3 of what other shops were asking. But, we had a limited budget and couldn't find a single modern design we liked elsewhere. We fit all the boxes in the back of our minivan (back row of seats folded down.) The cabinets look brand new after 10 years of hard use. The double wide lower drawers still slide smoothly and held up to years of toddlers climbing on and in them. Assembly was amazingly simple. My husband put the whole kitchen together in one day and we had them installed by midnight. He worked in a cabinet shop in high school and was impressed with their quality and sturdiness. We've gotten hundreds of complements on the looks, quality, and function of the cabinets over the years and will definitely use ikea again when we move.

"Lidingo Akurum kitchen cabinets peeling"
My cabinets were installed by a certified Ikea installer. They started peeling from the steam from the dishwasher and the coffee pot within 6 months. Eventually someone from Ikea came to check on my complaints and said that these were subpar. However, they have never made good on their alleged 25 year warranty. In fact, one worker said "what warranty?" There is too much turnover of staff for any consistency, it is hard to reach the right department and it is like going to war against Sweden! If anyone knows any recourse, please let me know.

"Paid for kitchen design what a waste of time and $$"
Paid Ikea 249 for a professional design , lady showed up said she was a full time student and wasn't sure where her contractor was , wasted 3 hours of her playing with her computer which was a total waste of my time without the contract here , who showed up 4 hours after she left , then gave a ridiculous quote to demo a kitchen that was half done already , then she sent another plan revised because of the contractor info and blamed me for holding up the plan and wanted to charge another 75 to revise it , though I never gave final approval and all she kept doing was switching my fridge and stove ( did she think I wanted to keep getting electrician and plumber in here every time she tried a new design ?) never use them you do not get what you pay for.

"Rip Off"
The worst cabinets ever. They chip badly, the hardware sucks and breaks and the sunlight turns the cabinets yellow. They now have discontinued the line and their warranty and we now have a 10,000 dollar pile of crap that has granite on it that is worth more then the junk and no help from the richest person in the world! Do not shop here ever! Major junk and no 25 year warranty they do not make it anymore!

"Toe kick is not particleboard"
Bought our cabinets, most are base cabinets with drawers, last March and my son and I assembled them in a couple days. We priced our kitchen at Lowes and Home Depot at 18000 or more, but got the Sektion cabinets at the atl store for just over 6500. The toe kick is a heavy duty plastic that clips on and off for cleaning and actually has a gasket on the bottom to prevent spills from running underneath. Drawers are steel, smooth running and there are tons of cool inserts that fit perfectly. Haven't seen the old style Ikea, but the new ones are awesome!

"New kitchen"
After putting together 5 Ikea kitchens for my rental properties and my weekend home over the years with great results, the new Sektion series sucks! Don't even attempt the Foervara drawers, even with bungee cord and duck tape they didn't stay together long enough to screw the front panel on, the holes are not predrilled. The Maximera drawers are a bit better but far from the sturdy old ones. The front panels are made from cheaper wood composite, Ikea... give us back the Akurum cabinets! Until then I'm on strike!

The apartment I bought was remodeled with Ikea cabinets. Looks pretty. What a bunch of junk. Falling apart in record time. The whole kitchen will have to be redone.

"Not real wood"
These are pure crap. No real wood at all only particle board and plastic the backs are not much more than cardboard and the feet are thin plastic. On the up side if you have a firepit they burn real well.

"Ikea cabinets ok for show, not for use"
My entire kitchen was remodeled with ikea before we bought this home. I would say that is the best use for ikea cabinets, to remake a kitchen on the cheap, make it look pretty good. As far as using the cabinets, they are junk. They are falling apart, the doors have warped and the base moldings have fallen off. The particle board is a very coarse and expands when wet. I am sick that we purchased a home and now, only a year later have a tacky looking kitchen. One example of how they are made - the base boards that are below the cabinets are made from particle board, not finished on the edges, very crude. These boards are attached to the cabinets with a very cheesy plastic clip that breaks with any impact. When you mop the floor the particle board absorbs the water and expands. Then you cannot put the clips back on. We have already taken off all of the boards under the cabinets because they fall off when you bump them with a vacuum or mop. I have done searches looking for a place to warn people of the short life of these cabinets and this is the only site I can find. Ikea has about 100 sties out there all looking like they are actual web sties, but they are just hidden ads for Ikea. Please do not waste your money, unless you are not planning to actually use your kitchen to cook in. As a sort of fake home front, the cabinets are great.

"Terrible Customer Service and Response"
Purchased complete kitchen (Bodbyn) for apx. $7500.00 in April 2015 during Ikea sale. Was required to pay for all in advance. After paying was told only 1/2 of cabinets were in stock! Given gift card for balance of order. Customer (me) is required to check stock by calling and no guarantee that stock will be available to pick-up. Made 5 trips to Tampa Fl store (270mi round trip) and still do not have cabinets. Checked again today and told balance of order might be in by middle of October 2015. Management does not care to be bothered by customer or doing anything by way of expediting order or giving any sort of credit to customer for this terrible inconvenience. Recommend that you do not do business with Ikea. They are not to be relied on or customer oriented!

"Disappointed"
I bought an Ikea white stat kitchen in January 2000. After a couple of years the door and drawer fronts turned yellow. Ecomaster visited twice to survey the problem. Ikea refused to replace the doors etc bcos ecomaster stated I should have had two extractor fans in the kitchen instead of one. They have closed the case. What's the point of a 25yr guarantee?

"General cabinet installation"
Beware of installation companies that install Ikea cabinets in metro Atlanta. Regents Company and Rock Star Company are very unsatisfactory in their lack of attention to detail and general sloppiness in their kitchen installations. Make sure you get references and look very closely at the cabinets that are being used for the reference.

"Only if you don't cook"
We have had our Ikea Kitchen for 8 years. I was all for the price and had an Aunt that always had Ikea Kitchens and they always looked great. So I was pretty annoyed when the coating started to chip, peel, and yellow. Under the sink is the worst since the coating chipped the front of the cabinet. The water that does drip down has made the pressed "wood" expand. The steam from the oven has peeled the paint near the stove and the crock pot has made the paint bubble and crack without any contact and a good 5 inches of space. Even the cabinets that are not near those "harsh environments" are not doing too well, and you can see the cracking of the paint under the varnish. Do we have the receipt? Nope, so no replacement. The one thing that has maintained is the base cabinets. I have no complaint with those. Even the lazy susan in the corner cabinets have worked well. I have come to realize that my Aunt never actually used her kitchen, as she was in the food industry and always bought her food home with her. So beware. These cabinets can't take the heat, and it is sad that my mom's 40 year old kitchen looks a lot better than my 8 year old one does.

"Stat doors discolor and chip"
I wish we had found reviews of Ikea cabinets from people who had them for longer than a recent renovation, but unfortunately, all we found were happy customers. It's been six years since we did our kitchen and it shows. We're still happy with the cabinets structurally. The problem is the doors--they haven't held up at all. They were white when we bought them but have yellowed considerably, a fact really in evidence where we have a new door next to an old one. We also have a major problem with the melamine surface (or whatever it is) chipping off. The yellowing affects all of the doors, and the chipping affects probably all but 2 or 3 of them. We should be able to trade the doors in for replacements under the 25 year warranty, but we're waiting for a few years for when we're ready to sell this house. There's no point in replacing the cabinet doors again just to have them look like junk for potential buyers.

"Buying Ikea cabinets"
We are in the process of installing a new kitchen from an unfortunate broken water pipe in the ceiling. My wife and I have decided to go with the Ikea cabinets, as they have a great warranty, and if assembles properly, they will last! Throughout college, I lived with many Ikea pieces, including a bed. The absolute KEY TO ASSEMBLY is to properly use Gorilla Glue for anything that touches wood including the screws. Any screws, or cam-locks you should use thread locker. My time in school took me from Chicago, to Utah, to Texas, and to Michigan. Never once had a problem with Ikea products.
