"my new american woodmark cabinets"
Recently bought some American Woodmark cabinets from home depot for my 13x13 foot kitchen, about 17 kitchen cabinets for about 4800.00 and about 400.00 in taxes (California). They had a sale that included 800.00 off coupon. They also threw in a few free items with the order for the 4800.00 dollars we got two lower lazy susan cabinets, lower cabinet spoon/knife drawer (came separate, you have to take apart a drawer and install it), lower trash drawer with two plastic trash cans, upper and lower spice rack cabinets, knobs for the doors (you get to pick from about 20 different types). Also a lower pull out pot drawer, semi self closing drawers(the two lazy susans and the trash drawers didn't come with semi-self closing divice), came with two filler pieces of wood, one long and one short, veerer lower base kick covers, large and thinner molding, large piece of veerer for the back of the cabinets that face the living room/dinning room, also they barely give you enough accessories to complete the job. Luckily my cabinet handyman didn't make any errors for the moldings or filler pieces or I would have been in trouble. Not sure what extra pieces would cost, also these are their basic honey oak designed cabinets, 15 were American Woodmark and 2 were Thomasville upper and lower spice rack cabinets because home depot said that American Woodmark did not have my spice racks in my size(in restrospect shouldn't have done this because they look different than the American Woodmark cabinets. Even though they send you 2 woodmark veerer sheets and two different door covers, they still look different also. They did not come with the woodmark semi self closing doors). Also see my review of the Thomasville cabinets in their cabinet review section. The american woodmark sends you the cabinets by truck. The trucking company emails you information on their delivery day and arrival times, they said they would be there between 11:00am to 3:00pm, someone called me at 11:00 and said they would be there in 30 minutes but didn't show up still 2:30. Not sure what happened but they did show up before 3:00pm. The cabinets take up a lot of space and had them put them in the driveway. They give you a check off list and the wife checked off as they went. There were a lot of boxes, big and small, also on the boxes it said in English and Spanish that you have 7 days to inspect the boxes. The truck delivery people work very fast, since the boxes were too big and bulky to bring into the house and garage. I took them out of the boxes and inspected them also, the cabinets are well protected with cardboard. Plastic wrapping around the boxes and plastic protectors for the cabinet edges and extra cardboard where needed. All in all very well packaged, only one upper cabinet door was damaged. Brought them into the house, touched one against the garage door and it dented slightly, so the particle board that is used is a little low grade, so use caution with them until they are put in place in the kitchen. The assembly and hardware seem to be very good but the particle board they use seems a little cheap. I can only speak for my cabinets but the base model cabinets have very little wood on them. Mostly particle board that has some type of vacuum themo plastic grain on them, but they look good as long as you don't look too closely. Also when the uppers and lowers are finally installed they look very good, and the mechanics are holding up well so far. But in all fairness these are very light duty kitchen cabinets. If you are rough on cabinets or have a big family that will give these cabinets a work out, I would look elsewhere. Also I took out the old 26 year old cabinets and when I put them side by side with my new ones, I found out very quickly that the old ones are better built than the new ones. Just better put together, it's just that the old ones are ugly and old looking, so I stained them dark walnut and polycoated them and hung them in the garage to use as storage. Glad I didn't throw them away. I have a small list of complaints, the pantry cabinet they sent were 90 inches tall but my ceiling is 90 inches tall. It was very difficult to install, the handyman had to cut into the ceiling a little. It put a dent into the ceiling, had to pay the handyman extra to fix the ceiling. My old cabinets have a removable sub-section below the cabinets but these woodmark ones don't. Woodmark stated they have a kick plate but they really don't it's all one piece from top to bottom(also since there is not protective sub-box underneath them. The particle board can soak up any water from mopping around them, so you might have to put down silicone/caulking behind the veerer kick panel or not mop around them), not sure if its the designer/home depot salesperson or the people they sent out to measure the kitchen, but american woodmark says they train the home depot people and their associates. One item was missing in the thomasville spice rack cabinet and the designer/salesrep at home depot. Said I didn't really need it, had to take the cabinet down to her to convince her it was needed. Also I notice after the sale, she seem now not interested in me or the few problems I had. Basically she was brushing me off a little. But I didn't let that stop me with small issues I was having....i bugged her everytime I had a issue. Also other small problems were that the thomasville cabinets came with screws to mount and the american woodmark ones didn't. It would have been nice if the designer/sales rep offered that information on the screws necessary with these cabinets or offered a kit to buy. But she didn't, also inside the woodmark cabinets tags are posted not to use nails on these cabinets. My old cabinets were nailed in, not sure why these new cabinets can't use nails but followed their directions and only used screws. Another problem was with the measurement people that they sent out twice to measure my kitchen, the first group of measurers spend only 10 minutes measuring, the second group spent about 20 minutes. The measurement wasn't correct, which I didn't know until it was too late. The upper and lower cabinets on one wall was 2 inches too wide but because when they installed them, I didn't think much of it until the granite guy did his work. Two days later and found out the bullnose on granite needs an extra two inches on the bullnose edges so it stuck out on edges going/coming from the garage door. But it was too late to do anything about it. So if you are going to install bullnose granite, it overhangs your cabinet about 2 inches on the bullnose side of it. So the cabinets next to the door will need to be 2 inches to the left or right of a opening door. Also the top cabinet should be inline with the bottom one. And the sad part of it, is that the designer/sales rep and the people that measured the kitchen knew I was putting in bullnose granite because originally I was buying it from them. So you might have to double check the work of these people that come out and ask questions when they are measuring also if you hire handymen like I did. You have to supervise them, also research on the internet what is the basic procedure and what materials need to used. Many of them tried to use cheap material on the project.

"42 inch bathroom vanity cabinet"
I just had my all wood vanity installed 3 weeks ago and the vanity door is already hanging off by the hinge. The screw pulled right out of the wood and it has barely been used. All the cabinets in our house including the one it replaced have been here since 1987 and nothing like this ever happened to a single one of them. I am so upset about the poor quality of this cabinet because of this. It is a little late to have it removed and get a new one after all the expense of having it and the new counter installed.

Cabinets are cheap. 3 years into installation and the metal in the hinge breaks, leaving yet another problem to deal with. Will not buy anything else from these makers.

"Working with their 3rd mistake!"
We received two sliding shelves for our pantry. One was find, but the other had a bent slider. I was going to live with that because the shelf still functioned, but when my husband began to install the hardware onto the cabinet he realized that they had sent him two right side arms. When Lowes reordered the shelf, they sent a more heavy-duty one which would have been great if it also hadn't come with two of the same side supports! Their workers don't know a right arm from a left arm!

"Extremely Satisfied!"
I shopped for months and months for new kitchen cabinets. I happened to meet an excellent kitchen designer at Home Depot and he took the time to explain the differences in quality, finish and price between Decora (which I was leaning towards because in my mind if I spent more that would equal better quality) and American Woodmark. HD was having a fantastic sale on American Woodmark so I decided to purchase them. The cabinets arrived in a few weeks. I was very impressed with the packaging. Everything was carefully wrapped and protected for shipment. We purchased 28 cabinets in total. The only problem we had was a scratch on a glass door which the company replaced immediately, no questions asked. All the cabinets are stained evenly. My new kitchen is absolutely beautiful. Looks extremely high end and custom. My kitchen designer helped me create an island with decorative legs and additions that make it look custom made. The moldings we added to the entire kitchen are very impressive as well. I went with Java cherry cabinets for the kitchen with pantries built around the entire refrigerator and a lighter, maple island with hazelnut stain. I would recommend American Woodmark without any hesitation. I worried and worried about going with this brand of cabinets from the date I purchased them. Prior to getting my cabinets I had nightmares about it, worrying that I went with a lesser quality cabinet because of the price and my new kitchen would be an embarassment. Well was I wrong and all that worrying was for nothing. My new kitchen is absolutely beautiful, looks extrememly high end and designer. The quality is great. I am so proud and I feel like I got the buy of the century for paying under $12,000 for the cabinets. If you are on the fence about American Woodmark, go for it, you will not be disappointed.

"The absolute worst - save yourself the trouble"
I ordered cabinets in early October. I have been involved in designing and refurbishing over 20 homes the last couple of years. We usually always use KraftMaid or Thomasville. When we decided to redo our home we decided on American Woodmark because they just introduced a new color that was exactly what I was looking for. The cabinets arrived in 3 weeks from order which I was both surprised and happy about. When we began to open the boxes it was obvious there were issues. I immediately called hd. It took 2 weeks to get someone from American Woodmark to return my call. When the rep finally came to my home and instead of taking responsibility for their poor craftsmanship and quality of their product he suggested that my contractor and I were at fault and perhaps we had mishandled the product, I was stunned at his comments and asked him how on earth we could have cause the issues. There were router gouges on 3/4 of the cabinets. There was on door that had absolutely no finish coat on the entire door, there were two doors that were a completely different color globs of glue, scratches and I could go on and on! The quality of the work is unacceptable! The rep was in my home less than 30 minutes, he did not take one note, nor one picture. After many calls and much stress they shipped me 10 replacement doors and 2 drawer fronts. When the shipment arrived the first package I opened was a door that was cracked and someone in their factory re-glued the door and shipped it to me...the remainder of the order was equally as bad. When they were packaged the doors were placed in cardboard and double strapped and no other protection, so all arrived damaged and scratched. The doors were reordered again and shipped to the rep who lied and told his superiors he had inspected them and all of them were in great shape. When I went to pick them up at the local home depot we found packages that had never been opened. Though they were packaged properly there were still issues on 3/4 of the doors - there are spots that have no lacquer finish, bubbles in the stain, router gouges on the doors, the insides of the cabinets have lots of rough spots and if installed if you reaching into the cabinets and brush against the door your clothing will be snagged. The color is uneven, some of the doors have big strips going down the center of the cabinets where the stain was applied uneven. Now keep in mind this 2nd set of replacement doors and these were given tlc from the QC department! Now the nsm, who is very difficult to deal, and also suggested that I take some responsibility for the issues because I should not have allowed my contractor to install their faulty product! Really? Let's see 2 set of replacement doors plus the ones that were original to the cabinets....that makes 3 and American Woodmark cant get it right and I'm being unreasonable? If this was a car the lemon law would have kicked in ... The other issue with the cabinets are the face of the cabinet where the doors are actually attached is rough almost like when you take sand paper and rough something up to get paint to adhere to it. The second rep that came out told me that is the way the manufacture the cabinets. If that is the case why don't they feel and look like that on their displays in the showroom. Everytime I ask that question I can't get an answer and the nsm continues to tell me I'm being difficult! We spent a lot of time designing our space and selecting all of the elements. We did not skimp and put top of the line appliances, flooring and counter tops into this project as well. What should have been a truly joyous time with many enjoyable moments shared with our family and friends has become a place I absolutely hate going into because of all of the stress and ill feelings this situation has cause. So my suggestion to anyone reading this post would be stay as far away from their product as you can. My experience is whatever money the Home Depot folks tell you are saving you will spend in labor, delays, work around and doctor bills from all the stress the process causes you and your family!

"MISTAKE AFTER MISTAKE"
Not sure if I'm rating the cabinets, which for the price aren't bad, or actually Home Depot. The cabinets came in ok except 2 and Home Depot replaced them but without the doors. Now this might seem trivial, but cabinet without the doors means I have to put the old doors on the new cabinet. Different day of staining and different lacquer applied to each. This means the doors don't match the cabinets. Home Depot girl designed the cabinets, which was only replacing the old ones down to a tee. Problem is they came out twice to measure then I sat down with my own so that the computer they were using would accept the dimensions. You probably know where this is heading. I'll cut to the chase. They quoted 4800 to install, I got it done for 1400. Good thing I had good carpenters doing the install. The upper cabinets had to be moved 2 inches to the right because the spacing wouldn't be equal to the other side of the window, but that worked out because the molding would have stuck out 2 inches to the left past the wall. The lower cabinets by the frig were 3/4 of an inch off because my granite counters had to be cut that much more to fit the stove in. Remember all we were doing was replacing existing cabinets. The sink basin was off center because the sink had to be attached by 1x2's installed under the sink because there wasnt enough room to install clips on the left side. Wow. Carpenter used kick plate for island for the moulding around the window, used the under cabinet molding for the island kick plate, used part of the upper cabinet molding for the under cabinet molding, and on and on. Had to purchase 500 more of stained lumber to finish around the window, which she goofed badly. The way she had it going we were going to have a shelf sticking out above our heads at the sink with the shelf only allowing 5 inches of height????? Wife and carpenter came up with great solution, but again more wood. The free hardware came with the wrong type of handes and so on and so on. I can go on but you get the picture. I would never do this again at the home depot. Nor would I get Woodmark again. My carpenter could have built me better cabinets for less and saved the aggrevation.

"best purchase ever made"
From the Design at Home Depot "non commission Employees v/s Lowe's which are on commission" Designer at the Oakland store 1007 did a great job and caught mistake made at the other store . Let's talk Cabinets , I was able to track them every week , I was informed 3 weeks in advance , then 1 week prior then the day before delivery , I had 2 hughes pantry cabinets the tallest available, everything was absolutely perfect, not a scratch , not a dent and those guys had to negotiate the stair case, they were in and out 2 rooms full of cabinets went over the order with us, very polite well groomed. All the cabinet are all plywood {the best} saying they are gorgeous would be an understatement, they will be installed in a kitchen with white oak flooring harvested 150 years ago and have sank on the rivers at the time the tree were 400 to 500 years old, thank you American Woodmark they will definitely be an asset to this 100 years old house , made in the USA too .

"Poor Quality, Poor Service"
I am very disappointed in the American Woodmark kitchen cabinets. I ordered in September 2011 for a home I am having built, and in Home Depot?s ?service?. The cabinets look good from the front but the exposed sides look like faux wood Contact shelf paper. I was not informed at the time I ordered the cabinets that I would have to pay $300 extra if I wanted the sides to look like wood. This is for a small (13 feet long) Pullman-style kitchen. I did then opt for the ?skins?, four weeks ago, and was just advised by H.D. that they are finally ready for installation. After I pick them up from H.D. myself and bring them to the ?job site.? H.D. charged $250 for delivery of the cabinets. I also ordered laminate countertops, which cannot be installed until the cabinet sides are redone. It appears that it will take H.D. over 10 weeks to complete this simple project. Also, the upper cabinets are only 10 deep, meaning they are too small for dinner plates. The more than 50 pages of ?paperwork? I received from H.D. when I ordered the cabinets did not include the dimensions for the upper cabinets. American Woodmark?s promotion included a free wood tiered cutlery divider in one of the drawers. The drawer, and the spaces for the cutlery are so tiny (1? high, 2-?? wide x 11? long) that the drawer is totally useless. It might work in a Barbie kitchen. Ironically, had it not been for promotions by American Woodmark and H.D., the cabinets would have cost more than the quote I received from a good local custom cabinet maker.

"Auburn Maple Glaze"
We purchased new cabinets from American Woodmark and ordered from Home Depot. Both of the experiences with these companies was OUTSTANDING. The sales representation from Home Depot was wonderful. Very informative and knowledgeable. The customer service representatives from American Woodmark were awesome to work with. The cabinets arrived exactly on time and were in perfect condition except for one small flaw on one of the door fronts. I called American Woodmark and they shipped another door without question or delay. The cabinets are extremely well built. I am very very pleased on all fronts. My complete kitchen remodel was completed in five days from date of cabinet delivery. Very little inconvenience and superior service. I cannot say enough positive regarding both companies. Best purchase I ever made.

"Still in love with my cabinets after ten years, Savannah Collection by American Woodmark"
Ten years ago my husband and I became homeowners. We decided that we were going to buy a home that needed a lot of work. We wanted to have everything in the home be our design and we wanted to have a lot of "sweat ownership" in our home and do most of the repairs ourselves. We spent a lot of time in the kitchen redoing the floors and upgrading the plumbing, but we decided to outsource the installation of our new kitchen cabinets. We paid almost ten thousand dollars for the cabinets and there are easy fixes with cabinets, so we decided to let the professionals install the cabinets. We went with the Savannah Collection made of Maple in the Butter cream color. We wanted something durable that showed the natural wood color. I love the little extras with the cabinets. We have everything from a turn table to cabinet shelves that extend. When we were picking out the cabinets I almost went with a cheaper brand without any extras. I am so happy that I spent the extra money. The extras just help to make my life easier as I don' have to stretch and strain as much to get what I am looking for. Plus the Savannah cabinets have a twenty five year warranty and I am sure that they will last at least that long if not longer. The cheaper cabinets only came with a ten year warranty, so I would have to replace them in ten years.

"My Kitchen Cabinet"
I am very satisfied with my cabinets. I have had them for over 10 years and they never once got broken. What I like about them is their color, and the history behind them. As for dislike there's nothing that comes to my mind. I would buy this brand again but at the same time I do wonder if I should change them. I would also tell my friends about them as well. These were the first cabinets that I picked to go with my house. The old ones that I had were not really to my liking. After browsing for a bit I found these cabinets and just simply loved them. Although if I did have to ever replace them I'll most likely get the same brand again until I no longer wish to get it. Overall I am happy to have these cabinets. I really recommend this brand.

I ordered $8,000.00 of American Woodmark cabinetry for my kitchen remodel. HD was running a special and the pricing became attractive enough to purchase from someone who I would not normally consider. Delivery was as they promised with only one item missing. I did have to drive to Reading Pa to pick up the part to keep the installation on schedule. We ran into a major problem with a corner cabinet. The cabinet was glued with a bead only on the veneered surfaces of the cabinet main support instead of in the dado joints. This caused it to fail as soon as we started to move it. HD and American Woodmark were quick to respond and replaced the cabinet. My suggestion is to check the location of the glue beads when your cabinets arrive. Be sure that the glue is in the dado grooves and actually makes contact to non-veneered surfaces or (wood to wood). The glue does not adhere well to the veneer surface because it is very slick and will cause problems later.

"Nice and mostly durable"
We've owned these kitchen cabinets for close to 12 years, and they've been holding up fairly well. These cabinets have seen many trials from kids, pets, spills, and have even been able to hold much more pots and pans then they're supposed to. While the insides of the cabinets hold up very nicely, the outside seems to be less durable, which I have never cared for. It is full of scuffs and battle wounds from kids chasing pets and each other. We recently decided to cover up the siding with waynes coating, due to the amount of marks on it. While I know this isn't a direct result of how they were made, I do wish that the exterior was as durable as the inside is. I would recommend them to a friend or family member, as long as they don't have a bunch of kids running around!

"Very satisfied with cabinets"
The cabinets that came with my house were installed in 1985 when the house was built. They are lovely and have a modern look to them. They are very easy to keep clean mainly due to the durable laminate surface along with the fact that the top and bottom edges of the cabinets are solid hardwood and nicely beveled. The only thing that we have disliked about our cabinets are the few doors that ended up with broken hinges. The cabinet doors are also quite heavy and over time this is probably what contributed to the hinges breaking on the most frequently used cabinet doors. The replacements of the hinges were difficult since the cabinets were about 20 years old it was almost impossible to find a proper replacement hinge. Overall, the hinge problem is the only thing that we have been dissatisfied with regarding our 25 year old cabinets I would buy similar cabinets or products from American Woodmark Coroporation and overall our kitchen's primary feature is the beautiful cabinets which have held up so well and still look great after all of these years. I would recommend their products to family and friends.
