Ikea Kitchen Cabinets

Ikea is a privately-held Swedish company that offers a wide range of home furnishings. They offer an extensive line of kitchen appliances, tools, and cabinets. Ikea has over 400 stores nearly 50 countries.

Ikea's Cabinets

In the past, Ikea sold kitchen cabinets in two basic designs: free-standing and built-in. Ikea offered three lines of free-standing kitchen cabinets: Bravad and Varde (designed by Mikael Warnhammar), and Udden (designed by Ehln Johansson). The built-in line, called Akurum, included base cabinets (which stand on the floor), wall cabinets (which attach to the wall and included features such as spaces for microwaves, glass doors and corner cabinets), and tall cabinets (which reach from floor to ceiling). All units are modular, and can be mixed and matched into a wide array of configurations.

Today, all lines of Ikea cabinets are under one new name: Sektion. This new Ikea kitchen system includes the frame, doors, drawers, and hinges. There are three different types of Sektion cabinets: wall cabinets, base cabinets, and high cabinets. Use Ikea's "3D Kitchen Planner Tool" to design your kitchen based on your style and budget. Alternatively, you can hire a design pro from Ikea who will come to your home and work on detailed kitchen plan with you. They can also take measurements for an additional fee, or you can do it yourself. After the measuring is done and your designs are finalized, order in-store or online and choose if you want to pick up the cabinets or have them delivered. Except for electrical and plumbing, all installation can be done by following the instruction printouts included with the cabinets. Ikea is great for do-it-yourselfers, because you can choose which steps you want to hire an Ikea professional for and which steps you want to do on your own.

History

Ikea was founded in 1943 by Ingvar Kamprad; however, Ikea didn't begin building and selling furniture until 1948. The first Ikea catalog was distributed in 1951.

Where to buy Ikea cabinets

Ikea's Sektion kitchen system is available online, with their app, at their stores, and through the Ikea catalog.

Warranty

Ikea Sektion cabinets come with a 25-year limited warranty, excluding knobs, handles, and wall shelves. This is an improvement over Ikea's previous 10-year cabinet warranty. The warranty covers defects in material and workmanship. Reasons for non-coverage include normal wear and tear, accidents, incorrect assembly, and improper cleaning. You must save your original sales receipt as proof of purchase. This is only a summary, so be sure to read the full warranty info before make a purchase.
