Maytag Dishwashers
Maytag is an appliance company with a reputation for selling reliable products. Maytag offers 10 different dishwasher models: one portable model and nine under-counter dishwashers. The under-counter dishwashers are all 24-inches wide and range in price from just more than $400 to almost $1,500.
Maytag Company History
Frederick Louis Maytag built his first washing machine in 1907, in Newton Iowa. Maytag decided to produce these washing machines in the seasonal lulls of farm equipment sales. By 1911, Maytag had developed a washing machine with an electric motor. In less than 20 years, 1 in every 5 washing machines in America was a Maytag, and by 1927, Maytag had sold 1 million washers. In the post WWII era, Maytag began producing other home appliances, like refrigerators, ranges, irons, dryers, etc. Maytag remained an independent household appliance manufacturing giant up until 2006, when the Whirlpool Corp. bought out Maytag. Whirlpool then moved the Maytag headquarters from Newton, Iowa, to Benton Harbor, Michigan.
Special Features Of Maytag Dishwashers
The most distinctive feature of a Maytag dishwasher is the company's reputation for reliability and the full one-year warranty on all the machines. Apart from reliability, different Maytag dishwasher models come with a variety of features. One model offers a steam-cleaning option for glassware, as well as, an oversize capacity tub and a Precision Clean sensor. Another model offers a QuietSeries 300 sound package.
Safety Features Of Maytag Dishwashers
Maytag did have to recall about 2.3 million dishwashers due to a parts malfunction that posed a fire hazard. Liquid rinse-aid would leak and come into contact with the dishwasher's internal wiring, which could short-circuit and ignite. No other safety features are advertised on the products.
Energy Efficiency
Except for the two least-expensive under-counter dishwasher models, all Maytag dishwashers are ENERGY STAR-qualified.
Customer Experiences
Overall, Maytag dishwashers score high customer reviews for being quiet and getting dishes clean. The only complaints relate to installation, and most negative reviews seem to be directed at Home Depot's installation service.
Warranty Information
All Maytag dishwashers come with a full one-year warranty replacing any part for free that fails under normal use. The second year after purchase, Maytag will pay for any part that fails from normal use, but the customer will incur labor and service costs.
