I purchased a Northland 36" refrigerator and a 36" freezer. I have had nothing but problems with my freezer, it is 4 yrs old and now I am trying to see if I can sell it and purchase a sub-zero. Do not ever purchase a northland. I wanted to purchase made in u s a. But now I am so ever sorry. Northland freezers need to correct all their refrigeration problems! Please read reviews. They are all bad!

"Loudest Refrigerator Ever"
When we remodeled our kitchen, I didn't want to spend $7000 each on the freezer and refrigerator columns so decided to save about $4,000 total and went with Northland (I believe this is now called Marvel and both units have bee discontinued - wonder why?). What a dumb mistake on my part. This was a lot of money for the worst appliance I have ever owned. The units are so loud that it is embarrassing when we have company. And we cannot hear the TV in our family room and need to turn the volume up when the refrig comes on. A $500 refrigerator runs quieter than this. We have had repairmen out several times and have replaced multiple parts trying to make it quieter, to no avail. I've lived with it for 5 years, and have finally given up. So now I am going to send the $15,000 and get the Subzero columns. It's a sad statement when you pay $10,000 for something and it's a piece of junk. The company should be ashamed.

"Poorly made"
I purchased a Northland Pro chef refrigerator and separate freezer. After a couple years the compressor went out on the refrigerator. The outside of each door (refrigerator and freezer) was almost as cold as the inside. The sound of the compressor was very loud. The chrome tape on the shelves began coming off in a couple years. The interior lights were not protected. So poorly made that I'm donating them and buying Sub-zeros. This was a waste of about $9,000.

"Noisiest Compressor"
I just spent almost $3,000 having a complete new module replaced in my old 18" Northland refrigerator. The sound is so intrusive in my studio apartment that I am going crazy! This particular model is no longer made by Northland. My kitchen was built around this narrow unit and I had no other options for another sized unit by another manufacturer as none is made. Many of my friends have Sub Zero refrigerators and you NEVER ever hear a sound. The compressor for this unit is in the front. This is the stupidest design that was ever made! I don't know how I will be able to live with this noise. There is no escaping the sound in this studio apartment. I urge anyone who is thinking about purchasing a Northland refrigerator (also known as Marvel) not to even consider buying one. Simply terrible!

"My Northland frig"
We bought our Northland Frig in 2002 and it stills runs! That is the only good thing I can say. It runs all the time and never stops. In the summertime it cannot keep up. We are constantly throwing spoiled food out. I have just emptied the entire frig into 5 coolers because the freezer just stopped working. Gonna throw a couple hundred dollars of food out. Was told by Northland when this happens you need to defrost (it already did it by itself!) over night and then restart. This is the 3rd time since we bought it. Aside from that, the hinges are totally rusted, the seals need replacing every 3 years and if you dont push the door hard, the door wont close and you come home to more spoiled food. Don't ever buy a Northland, it's a beast. Buy a Sub Zero, it's sophisticated! Can't tell you how many times I have said "I want to throw this thing into the pond" (which I live on). Of course I would never do that!

"Norge Refrigerator"
I live in Montagu, Western Cape in South Africa. I bought a Norge refrigerator in September 1970 and it is still in daily use. Not a single cent was spent over the years on maintenance. It never broke down over the all these years and therefor all parts are still the original once. A fridge in daily trouble free use for nearly 43 years must be record. I understand that the Norge refrigerators were discontinued in 1970. So mine was one of the last made. I think you might find the information interesting

"ss-sg"
I hate my Northland. It is loud, inefficient, and not dependable. The icemaker rarely works. The soleniod on the water line for the icemaker just started leaking (It is the actual soleniod, not the connection) and ruined by laminate floor. The front grill always rattles when the motor is running. The fan on the freezer side has iced up several times. For the price, I expected better. I could have bought 5 refrigerators of better quality than what I paid for this piece of junk.

"Somewhat Satisfied w/Northland"
I have a 24" Northland freezer/refrigertor with an ice maker. I have a matching cabinet front and a handle-less opening. I have had this refrigerator for over 17 years and have had the motor replaced 1x with a refurbished motor. I have also had the ice maker replaced. My only issue with the refrigerator is that the motor is noisy. For a 24" the refrigerator/freezer is spacious. I have researched other companies, to find a quieter refrigerator. I find that I would have to sacrifice space for a quieter refrigerator. My future plans are to see about replacing the motor with another refurbished one.
